I’m a user and abuser of my own body. In my darkest hour I sold my soul to the devil and now I must pay the price. With his gun to my head I have no choice but to listen and obey, but I refuse to go down easily. Nothing is stronger than the will to survive. My instincts kicked into full gear the second he stepped into my motel room.
Except when I look at him I see my own heart staring back at me. A history tainted by blood.
I don’t know his name, but I know he wants me. To save myself I’ll sacrifice my sanity. My body. My soul. Something tells me the x-shaped scar that marks his eye is the only escape I have. He is Mr. X: the man who comes to claim my life. Can I save myself before he demands my heart?

Mr. X by Clarissa Wild
I was gifted a copy by the author in exchange of an honest review.
First of all I would like to congratulate Clarissa on writing such a difficult and twisted story, this is nothing like the previous books I have read from her, from the first page I kept trying to remind this was her and not another bestselling writer, this by all means its meant as a compliment, I just felt she took her writing to a complete different level.
This story is not your average romance book, its very dark and very cathartic, the main characters Mr. X and Jay take us on an explosive journey filled with deceit, revenge, passion, obsession, betrayal and ultimately love, but to understand this kind of crazy we must enter this very complicated path. One of the challenges that Clarissa had to work with in this story is the male lead monocle I felt she did a wonderful job describing, the emotions and motions that a person with that type of disability would encounter.
I am not one to write with spoilers and I don't like hiding my reviews for that fact so I won't be the one to tell you how the story goes, only that these two lost souls, in their own way thought life had dealt them a bad hand so they each make decisions that ultimately change their paths, those decisions are pinnacle to the story and Clarissa is so good she has us second guessing every twist and turn, both characters are broken and this plays an important part, the scars from the past is what has made them who they are and therefore prevents them from moving forward, each is hiding their own secrets and things are not at all how they seem.
I have to admit there were parts in the book where I had to re-read them a couple of times to make sure that scene had actually happened, and others had me totally engrossed I couldn't looked away for one second, I loved the energy between the leads, yes sometimes you just want to know why things are developing the way they are and sometimes you want to read as fast as you can to get to the end only to have been totally mistaken and Clarissa taken us to another route.
In conclusion, yes its a dark story, but its also Clarissa at its best, a masterpiece, shame there aren't any more stars to give.
