In the blink of an eye, Aubrey Steven’s life has been forever changed. Still reeling from the devastating blow, she vows to herself that she will not let anyone in. She will protect herself, even if that means missing out on her one chance at true love.
Noah Davis knows just how precious life is. His job as a firefighter shows him every day that you shouldn’t take life for granted. He thought he was living a full life until he met Aubrey. Now she’s consumed his entire life with one chance meeting.
When Aubrey is pushed to her breaking point, will she push Noah away or will she take comfort in him? Will Noah fight for her and their newfound love. Can he show her that love is worth taking a chance on? Or will they watch their love go up in smoke?
Shaking my head, I make my way over to the fairly crowded bar. I’m actually debating on just leaving when I feel someone bump into me. I spin around with the intention of telling them off, when I see who it was. She has shoulder length blonde hair and in the dim light I can’t quite make out the color of her eyes. She’s quite a bit shorter than my 6’3” height, and she’s wearing a pair of jeans that look like they’re painted on. Damn. She’s fucking beautiful. “I’m so sorry! I wasn’t looking where I was going. Are you alright?” “Yeah, I’m fine Sweetheart. Barely a scratch on me.” I give her my biggest shit eating grin and she starts cracking up. “Yeah that was probably a dumb thing to say, huh? Sorry, this has been a crazy night. Let me start over. I’m so sorry you sexy son of a bitch, are you okay?” Oh this girl has sass. I like it. “So you agree. You think I’m sexy?” That’s all it takes and were both cracking up. Sticking my hand out to grasp hers I shake it and introduce myself. “Hi, I’m Noah. Nice to meet you.” “I’m Aubrey. Nice to meet you Noah. I’d like to buy you a drink to apologize for all this nonsense, if that’s okay. What will you have?” “Well, Aubrey. I’d love to have a drink with you, but where I come from, I will be buying the drinks. My momma would whoop my ass if she knew I let a pretty girl pay for her own drinks. So what will it be, Aubrey.” I grab her hand and pull her over to the now free bartender. She smiles at me before asking for a dirty martini. I order her drink and another draft beer for myself, then turn to look at her. In the bright light of the bar, I can now see her eyes clearer, and they are the most beautiful shade of blue. I reach over to the bar and hand Aubrey her drink, then grab my beer. We clink the glasses together and take a drink. “So, Aubrey. Tell me something about yourself.” “Well, let’s see. My favorite color is pink. I love country music, hence why I’m at a country bar. My favorite food is my mom’s lasagna. How about you?” She smiles at me. “I also happen to like country music. I love football. No favorite color. And my favorite food would definitely have to be pizza. Any kind.” I take a pull from my beer as I watch her staring at me. I can’t get over how beautiful she is. We continue to drink in silence when a big grin comes over her face. She places her glass on the bar and turns to me. “Oh I love this song!! Would you like to dance?” She holds her hand out to me. I’m not much of a dancer, but for this girl I could be. I drain my beer and take her hand. “Let’s go.” I follow her out into the crowd of people as the sound of “Make Me Wanna” by Thomas Rhett blasts over the speakers. Aubrey stops walking once we reach the center and starts to move her hips. She turns to me and places her hands on my arms, trying to get me to loosen up. I seize the opportunity and grab her hips, pulling her flush with my body. I start to sway with her, holding on tight. She wraps her arms around my shoulders, following suit. This girl. I barely know her and yet I’m already done for. Her blue eyes. Her cheeks are flushed from the dancing and the drinks. I can’t get over how beautiful she is. And she’s awesome. Aubrey is a spunky little spitfire that I’d like to get to know better. All too soon the song ends and she removes her arms from my shoulders. And the sparkle is gone from her eyes. “Noah, it was so nice to meet you. Thank you for the drink and the dance. But I have to go I’m sorry. It’s late and I have work in the morning. Have a nice evening!” She leans up on tiptoes to kiss me on the cheek and then she’s gone. I watch her walk over to a tall brunette, and whisper something in her ear. Her friend looks over at me and then back to Aubrey. And before I know it they’re gone, walking out the door. And I’m left standing in the middle of the dance floor wondering what the hell just happened.
